The compromise of being by your side
Videomaker Roger Bley in action near the construction site of Belo Monte Hydroelectric Station, in Pará
September 9, 2012
From the newsletter that came out of the mimeograph machine at the Odebrecht office, Salvador, in the early 70s, to nowadays, when the magazine arrives to its public through different media, a path of permanent graphic, editorial and technological improvement has been tracked by Odebrecht Informa, our OI.
The reader has access, today, in addition to the traditional printed edition, to the magazine’s website in the Internet, as well as to the editions for iPad and smart phones. Odebrecht Informa goes through the same changes lived by those who give meaning to its existence: the Organization’s participants.
As a consequence of this process, the search and production of the magazine’s raw material has changed. The texts from Odebrecht Informa, which, since 2011, addresses specific themes in each issue (“Water”, “Energy,” and “Communities”, for example), have become more analytical, without denying the journalistic “DNA” of the publication, of course: information is the essence of this work.
The images, in turn, object of these new demands, had their obtaining and editing necessarily restructured. The photographers no longer go out thinking only about the pages on the printed edition; they know they must come back with material also for the website and the tablets. And, with increasing frequency, they go to the construction sites and industrial units accompanied by cameramen. Yes, because the Odebrecht Informa website counts with several videos.
In January, I had the opportunity of visiting the construction site of Belo Monte Hydroelectric Station, in the state of Pará, for one of the stories of the magazine’s next edition, which will address the theme “Transportation and Logistics”. I went there accompanying photographer Guilherme Afonso and videomaker Roger Bley to witness how the necessary equipment and material arrive at the building site of that which will be the third largest hydroelectric station in the world. The integration the road and inland waterway modals will be the highlight of the story.
In the pictures accompanying this post are Guilherme and Roger, caught by this reporter, in total action in the Xingu River (city of Vitória do Xingu), and in the port of Belém. Another picture (taken by a fellow participant of the Construtor Belo Monte Consortium) shows our team united in Vitória do Xingu.
The result of our work, and of the other teams of OI which went searching for good stories in Brazil and in the world, you will see in the next edition, number 159 – in the pages of your printed issue, here at the website, in your iPad or your smartphone. Regardless of the format or tool chosen, the most important, to us, is that Odebrecht Informa is increasingly closer to you. It exists and evolves because of you.
