Risk assessment, investing in asset security, obtaining lines of bonds, contract insurance coverage, creating integrated solutions for projects and businesses. Expressions like these, which are part of the daily language of people who work in the world of insurance and bonds, can sometimes hide what lies behind them – the drive and creativity that set the tone for the day-to-day operations of an area that is essential for any company’s growth.
Support institutions like Odebrecht Administradora e Corretora de Seguros (OCS), the Group’s captive broker, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2008, provide the necessary conditions for organizations to grow and work at ever higher levels of competitiveness. As we can see in the cover story in this issue of Odebrecht Informa, in the case of OCS, over the last three decades the most important word has been “trust.” That has been the tenor and cornerstone of OCS’s work since it was created in 1978: establishing bonds of trust with the Odebrecht Group’s shareholders and entrepreneur-partners, as well as the leading insurance and bond companies in Brazil and worldwide. OCS’s main objective has always been to provide the best possible service to each and every Odebrecht Group client.
One of those clients is Miami-Dade County, in Florida, for which Odebrecht teams are currently building and expanding the North Terminal at Miami International Airport. When it is delivered in 2011, the terminal will handle 70% of the airport’s operations. Another client in the United States, the US Army Corps of Engineers, has Odebrecht as a partner in the reconstruction and expansion of the system of levees that protect the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, from flooding caused by hurricanes that sweep through that region with deadly regularity. In Africa, AcelorMittal, the world’s biggest steel maker, is carrying out a major project in Liberia with Odebrecht’s help. That is the subject of another report in this issue.
For Braskem, the work of OCS’s teams is also essential, because they manage the insurance coverage for all the petrochemical company’s industrial units. Those facilities are where Braskem develops products that give its clients a competitive edge. A report on the filing of Braskem’s 200th patent, for a product that ensures that food is sold in the freshest possible condition, exemplifies the company’s ongoing drive to offer its clients creative solutions and live up to their trust. As OCS’s first 30 years attest, there is nothing more important to a company’s success than building relationships of trust.
