The Group’s expansion and conquest of new markets have led Odebrecht to undergo extensive restructuring, including the establishment of 12 leading companies
For the Odebrecht Group, 2009 was marked by the consolidation of more than one transition of generations and the completion of yet another succession process, beginning with the arrival of Marcelo Odebrecht in the Group’s leadership and the renewal of several areas. This was made possible by the expertise of a new generation of entrepreneur-partners who are prepared to face the challenges ahead.
In 2000, the Group had two main businesses: Engineering & Construction, and Chemicals & Petrochemicals. The strength of the Brazilian economy and Odebrecht’s structured international performance fostered consistent growth and the conquest of new markets, requiring massive internal restructuring. As a result, the Group began 2010 with 12 leading companies responsible for business segments or delegated markets. The Odebrecht Foundation continues to lead the Group’s social responsibility programs, and there are two support institutions: Odebrecht Administradora e Corretora de Seguros Ltda. (OCS), the organization’s captive brokerage, and Odeprev Odebrecht Previdência, which is responsible for Odebrecht members’ pension fund.
The progress made in the sphere of delegation of responsibility to business leaders aims to promote even closer relations with clients and create the necessary conditions for ensuring the Group’s subsidiaries survival and growth. Odebrecht leaders and their teams also work closely with their local communities through programs that improve working conditions, health, education and the arts and culture, as Odebrecht’s contribution to building a more equitable society and a better quality of life for all.
